Day 89 - "Beast Mode" to the Green Mtn House

August 12 - +Stratton Pond Shelter to Manchester Center, VT - 10.7 miles

Broke camp at 5:40am and hit the trail head at 8:52am - 10.7 miles before 9:00am!

The above feat was made possibly thanks to what we call "Beast Mode." Beast Mode is more than just hiking fast. It is a state of mind you enter in, with one goal or purpose, your end destination. We normally enter into Beast Mode when we are heading into a trail town for a nice breakfast or lunch or if we're running late and want to make it to camp before it gets dark. Beast Mode is about hiking super fast, for an extended period of time, ignoring anything and everything to accomplish your intended goal. We will overrun boyscout troops, small animals and fallen trees. Whatever it takes.

Up For Breakfast, a phenomenal restaurant in Manchester Center, was our destination this morning. Upon arriving we immediately ordered the gigantic blueberry scones as our appetizer, while we waited for our breakfast to be served. All three of us ordered the "Hungry Hiker." That was almost too much food.

After breakfast we headed to the Green Mountain House to enjoy our nearo (near 0). For only $20 you got a bed, laundry, hot shower, use of a great kitchen, TV with movies and fast internet. I forgot one more thing, a pint of Ben & Jerry's! I had a tough time leaving this hostel.

For our "nearo" day, we watched the Dark Knight, checked Greyhound bus rides and Airtran standby flights home. It's crazy to think that we're starting to plan our return trip...

Samwise threw together a gourmet pasta dinner, with a scrumptious garlic bread and salad. Sweet Tea purchased a gallon of Sweet Tea for the dinner.
